Art of Transliness

Answer
So I work at a fastfood restaurant, and it's kind of taken it's toll. Between me not getting along with my coworkers, dealing with their transphobia (directed towards customers since I'm not out to them), and then the constants of being 'ma'am'd multiple times everyday... It's really starting to wear on me. I was wondering if there's any tips for coping, or any job suggestions of what I could do that would keep my interactions with others minimal? It would really help..

Zak: I worked fast food and it was really awful. I don’t know what restaurant you work at or what the rules would be, but one simple thing you could do would be to ask if you could move to a role where you deal with customers less so you wouldn’t have to deal with them calling you “ma’am” as much. For instance, I worked french fries and at McDonalds and I rarely had to interact with customers and actually barely had to deal with my coworkers either (granted they then moved me to the drive-through and that was pretty customer-heavy, but you get the point). If there’s anything like that you could do, I’d recommend it (cleaning the restaurant, doing dishes, working grill, etc.). I also tried to turn it into a game as much as I could to make it more entertaining and try to keep my mind off of the particularly obnoxious parts of the job. If you live in a bigger area you might also be able to look into being transferred to a nearby branch of the same restaurant so you’d work with different people, but that might not be feasible or even solve your problem.

If this is a temporary job for you or if you are saving up for something specific, remind yourself of those things. Hopefully things will improve.
