Adrian: there are no set of prequalifiers that you must attain before you can express your male-self to the world and demand that the world recognize you as such. You don’t need to be on hormones, you don’t need to even be planning on taking hormones. You don’t need to have had any kind of surgery and in fact you don’t need to even be planning on having surgery.
You have the right to say, “I’m a male, I’m a man, check me out, this is what being male/man looks like! EVERYONE COME SEE HOW GOOD I LOOK!” at any time you please and you have every right to expect and demand respect from people about your decision to come out as such. And furthermore, you also have the right to change your mind, to be fluid, to identify as something else one day, and another thing another day, and another thing another day. It’s all about accepting, becoming, and expressing a more authentic-self, whatever that means to you.
So sir, you are what you say you are - and that’s what trans* means to me. Trans* means I’m going to do whatever I want, whenever I want, in whatever order I want, and what I say goes - the end.
